So this is my beginning.

beginning

It’s the beginning of a space for me to organize my thoughts, to ask advice from people more knowledgeable than me (if it eventually reaches them!), to comment and reflect on my path, and record my experiences.

Just a few things first — I won’t be posting my name. Maybe an online alias will eventually come to me or, maybe, a witch name. But for now, as I learn more about neo-paganism and its many, many disciplines, I’d like to remain anonymous for both symbolic and also practical reasons. I live in the South of the U.S. I regularly attend a Protestant church and, while I don’t agree with many doctrines of Christianity, I cherish the community and friendships being part of a church has provided me. Maybe someday I will openly be able to share what I learn with friends, but for now, I don’t know how to even begin to “come out of the broom closet.”

That’s largely because I just know so little. I’ve been reading as many books as I can get my hands on. I’m hoping to find some sort of widget or app to maintain a reading list, mostly for my own reference. But I still feel like I’m floundering. The only person in my life who is a practicing pagan is a cousin who lives on the opposite coast. It took a lot of courage to reach out to her, and she provided me with a myriad of resources to help me get started. For now, though, I have yet to actually look a pagan in the eye and ask him or her what it actually means to them.

So I open this conversation to the universe. I might not be able to meet whoever answers, but at least I can create a safe space to ask questions, to find and talk to others like me. Maybe it will be a quiet space with few voices, but I have to believe that what you put out into the universe eventually comes back to you — just not always in the form you expect.

As I will it, so mote it be!
